Vitamin D found to effectively treat and prevent liver disorders, cancer

Vitamin D provides more benefits beyond its role in skeletal disorders. A new study published in the journal Nutrition & Metabolism has found that vitamin D can help prevent and treat different liver diseases and cancers.

  • The researchers of the study analyzed the therapeutic effect of vitamin D on liver disorders.
  • In the study, researchers reviewed previous studies on vitamin D, liver diseases, and cancers.
  • The research team found that there is a link between the status of vitamin D and various forms of cancer.
  • They found that vitamin D receptors and changes in gene expression seem influential in the development of long-term liver disorders.
  • Thus, nutritional status is essential in the prevention of the complication associated with liver dysfunctions, which makes it a must to maintain enough vitamin D in the body.
  • In addition, they found that vitamin D has therapeutic potential against chronic liver diseases, such as chronic hepatitis C virus infection, liver fibrosis, and hepatic necroinflammation.
  • Furthermore, the vitamin influences the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
  • Other therapies that include omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, amino acids, and steroids also provide benefits which could be further examined.
  • Vitamin D can help in the prevention and treatment of liver diseases and cancer.

In conclusion, the findings of the study indicate that the anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory properties of vitamin D make it a better option for the prevention and treatment of liver illnesses and cancer.
